Sign lanugauge interpreting an information guide > Code of ethics for registered interpreters

As members of a profession, registered sign language interpreters follow a Code of Ethics. This code indicates a range of rules about practice, service, behaviour, and about emotional involvement. For example, it is not appropriate to use a family member or a friend as an interpreter nor to undertake a technical assignment for which the interpreter is unprepared. It is not appropriate to cancel one appointment for a possibly more lucrative appointment elsewhere. It is vital that privacy and confidentiality are respected …. and so on.

Details of the code can be found on the web sites of the main organisations
