In the sessions of "The Company" you will find the first British Sign Language (BSL) course that allows people to individually discover, learn & practice BSL. The course focuses on those people who come into contact with Deaf people in their job, and Deaf and hearing people who want to communicate with each other.
The aim of the course is to bring you into contact with British sign language and to provide a more advanced introduction to the basics of the language and culture of the Deaf people in Britain, so that you can communicate in the area of work with Deaf people. The course consists of 17 sessions and it will deepen the learner's knowledge in signing space use by using sign language dialogues, grammar explanations, exercises and a comprehensive vocabulary.
Grammatically, the central issue is the usage of signing space: In the different sessions you will find several linguistic means for locating and referring to things in space, which are an important aspect of sign language grammar. By looking at the dialogues the learner can see these means in context, and he/she will find explicit explanations and illustrations in the grammar part. The course deals with the different mechanisms of locating things, e.g. the description of rooms within a building, or the locations of objects and their spatial relation to each other. Furthermore the use of time lines, directional verbs and the explanation of directions in a town are treated within the course. For each of these topics in every session, exercises are provided which enable the learner to test and deepen his newly acquired knowledge.
Enjoy learning BSL.
