First day at work > Numbers

The number system in BSL could take up a whole web site on its own. There are many regional variations on the number system and there are variations even within the same Deaf club. However, the numbers shown here should be recognisable by most Deaf people.

Where there are two hands used, in our sign, the number can still be recognised in many situations where you use only one hand – ie the right hand or dominant hand in our video. Where there is uncertainty, Deaf people will often mouth the numbers to give an extra visual clue.
